It was established in accordance with the order of the RSFSR No. 27 of February 11, 1932, opened on November 7 asa polytechnic, and in 1938 was renamed the regional museum of local lore. The first director was R. Bekmetov. Since 1940, the museum has been collecting archival materials on archeology and ethnography. In the first years, the museum's collections included more than 700 exhibits, which employed 7 people. Since 1979, the museum has been located in the current two-story building.
